Eldorado Canyon, Pine Nut Mountains

On August 21, 2016August 23, 2016 By Kurstin GrahamIn Day Trips4 Comments

I told Dean he would love this ride. "Where are we going?" "It's a secret. But be prepared it will be hot, 40+ miles, and about 5000 feet of climbing. We will be out all day. You will love it!" After the first hour or so of climbing Eldorado Cyn. Dean asked me, "how did …

Ride Report; Como Rd, Pine Nut Mtns.

On August 16, 2016August 16, 2016 By Kurstin GrahamIn Ride Report4 Comments

The Pine Nut Mountains are calling. This range stretches 30 miles from US Highway 50 in the north to State Route 208 in the south. This is my first ride in this area and it left me looking forward to my next ride. The seed of the Pinyon Pine is the mountains' name sake and …

Ride Report; Little Valley and Price Lake

On August 11, 2016August 11, 2016 By Kurstin GrahamIn Ride Report5 Comments

This ride was a reunion of sorts. My friend Pete Rissler had just bought a Trek cyclocross bike with the idea that with two sets of wheels, one set up with cyclocross tires and the other set up with fatter "gravel road" tires, he could participate in both backroad adventures and the great sport of …

Ride Report; Lovelock-Unionville Rd

On July 13, 2016July 13, 2016 By Kurstin GrahamIn Day Trips, Ride Report1 Comment

This ride has been on my "to-do" list for some time. The 100 mile drive east and back was my only deterrent. But I felt like I really needed to extend my boundaries on my map of places ridden and I think this did it. I had visited the bed and breakfast in Unionville 15 …

Staff, Retreat!

On June 29, 2016 By Kurstin GrahamIn Day Trips2 Comments

The Reno Bike Project's annual Staff Retreat for 2014 was a day tour out of Gerlach, NV, the southern tip of the Black Rock Desert. We drove out to Gerlach with the idea to ride out of town on NV 34 along the south west border of the Black Rock Desert, across a short section …

Ride Report: Ridge Top of Virginia Mountains

On June 26, 2016 By Kurstin GrahamIn Ride Report2 Comments

On the drive out to Winnemucca Ranch Road I was thinking that this is the area I have explored the most. Dean pointed out that it was close to Reno, 25+ miles, and rich in areas to explore; multiple mountain ranges and valleys showing off diverse geology, vernal springs supporting vegetation and wildlife, historical mining …

Pyramid Lake to Black Rock Desert- in three parts.

On June 24, 2016June 24, 2016 By Kurstin GrahamIn Day Trips7 Comments

This route has gone from a three part ride over a month's time to a three part ride over nearly two years. So many miles between the first leg of this tour in September, 2014 to finishing it in June, 2016. I think this is an outstanding route from Pyramid Lake to the Black Rock …

The bootpack on Steamboat Ditch is a bit chunky but smoother than I anticipated. If you are looking to test your snow/gravel skills I say go for it! The @manzanitacycles gravel bike with 2" studded tires is super confidence inspiring. #gravel #rideoutside #bikepackingbags
The Ward Charcoal Ovens were a highlight of my trip to White Pine County. This unique Nevada State Historical Park is worth the visit. I look forward to a summer tour in the area but I am so glad I caught it on a bluebird day between storms.
So much fat! Fat Bikes! Bristlecone Birkenbeiner was a super success! XC ski, snowshoe and fat bike race in Ely, NV. Hope to see you next year!
These past storms brought a lot of snow/rain/wind/calm/cold/warm weather to Bristlecone Pine Country. Winter in Nevada. I did an overnight south of Ward Charcoal Ovens. The State Park is impressive. I look forward to doing a summer trip here and reading all the interpretive signs.
I just posted the 2022 Review and Highlights on my blog. It was a blast reviewing the year and thinking of all the fun times we got to share between the tough pushes. There is a lot to be planned and ridden in 2023. I hope to see you out there! Link to post in bio.
I try to go #fishing every Monday. My winter spots are usually on the Truckee River by Patrick and Mustang. Yesterday I was on the Carson River south of Gardnerville where it flows out of the Sierras into Carson Valley. This is one of my favorite spots to fish in Nevada. Join me when it's warmer. #travelnevada #flyfishing #mountains #rivers
