Around and through the Monte Cristo Mountains

On March 21, 2023 By Kurstin GrahamIn Ride ReportLeave a comment

I first passed through Gabbs Valley when following Rabbit Springs Road in a loop from Luning to Sand Mountain. After that I was hooked on the area. I have been on numerous day trips to the area and have brought friends out for overnights in the area. This 50 mile loop on faint, or non-existent …

Winter Tour 2021; Rawhide – Tonopah Loop

On January 24, 2022 By Kurstin GrahamIn Short Tours12 Comments

More snow than I expected from the start of the ride. Dec. 26-30, 2021 note: I don't know why the photos beyond Tonopah are not loading in the post. If you click on the boxes they appear. Winter may not be the most desirable time to do a bike tour in the northern latitudes. But …

I made a trip around the Monte Cristo Mountains. From past trips south of Sand Mountain and through the Gabbs Valley Range the Monte Cristos always caught my eye. The biggest surprise came from the views in the washes. Great Nevada backroads. #bikepackingnv #onlyinnevada #rideoutside #mountains
Sunrise on the Black Rock Desert playa is a 4 seasons event. It is drying out quickly. Where I was riding today was covered by water only last month. I made a quick tour of Coyote Springs Dunes. #blackrockdesert #onlyinnevada #bikepackingnv #sunrise
My newsletter! Thanks for everyone's support. This was inspired by my trip around Mt Shasta. Link in bio.
A monthly newsletter based on the background research that inspires my rides. First topic will be Disappearing Glaciers inspired by my trip around Mt. Shasta.
A little snowshoe on the PCT. Carson Pass to Winnemucca Lake. It was great to see people enjoying the winter landscape. Looking forward to a summer paddle board trip here.
Hunter Lake Rd is a favorite climb above Reno in the Carson Range splitting the Mt Rose Wilderness. It can be a toss up in the winter, too snowy, too icy, too muddy. Today was good. There was hike-a-bike, but overall I got to pedal the majority. Thanks to Greg on his tracked quad for packing a route. The first 5 photos are at each mile of the ride. The conditions should improve over the next few weeks. #fatbike #winterride #onlyinnevada #reno #kalikrew
